The Courtney Chronicles {Meet Courtney}

A crazy idea occurred to me recently.

Why not record a few short videos for the blog to give my readers a better sense of who I am in real life?

I didn't think I could pull it off.  After all, the last time I was on video I was about 7 years old.  I was being baptized.  And I only had to say one word before I was dunked in the water.  That word was "yes," by the way.

But I thought I'd be brave and try out this crazy idea anyway.

I wish I could show you an outtake reel from yesterday's practice session.  Oh my.  It was quite entertaining.

But oddly enough, I wasn't nearly as awkward and tongue-tied as I expected to be.  So I decided to go for it today and recorded what I hope will be the first in a series of short video posts giving you a glimpse into different pieces of my life.  I'm calling these videos The Courtney Chronicles.

This first installment is entitled {Meet Courtney} and is just an introduction to me and the blog.  It's far from perfect, but I decided the first take was good enough and I'd just mess it up if I tried too hard to get it right.  I hope you'll enjoy it and let me know what you think of this crazy idea.

  1. Wow! You are so brave and did such a great job!
There is no way in a million years that I could ever do a video of myself. My hat's off to you girl! "Ya done good" ;o)
I'll have to show the kids, they will love to see AND hear "Aunt Courtney".

  2. Hi Courtney,

I have been following your blog from half way around the world-literally.

I live in Thailand and have been a missionary here for 26 years. I, too, have been on a healing journey this past year. It has been incredibly painful, but I am growing into a healthier person for which I am thankful.

I enjoyed the video. You have a very beautiful smile.

    Jan

  3. Oops, I think I closed the tab before the captcha word appeared.

I agree with B that you are brave to do this, and you did a great job! I crochet also, though my stash and pattern list is growing faster than the actual works-in-progress at the moment.

Thanks for your comment on my blog. I'm very thankful those sermon notes encouraged you. God bless you, new friend!

  5. @B: Oh thank you, B. I honestly didn't think I could do this and I'm still wondering how in the world it ended up turning out so well! And I'm so excited for the kids to be able to see it...you'll have to let me know what they think :o).

  6. @Anonymous: Hi Jan! Wonderful to "meet" you here. Thank you for your sacrifices for the cause of Christ...truly humbled by your years of service to Him. Yes, this growing business is so often painful, but I too have found that I come out on the other side as a healthier person. So grateful He is bringing healing to whatever struggles you have been facing. May He continue His beautiful work in your life.

  7. @tinuviel: My bravery has actually taken me quite by surprise. Still shaking my head in disbelief that I pulled this off and feel good about the result!

And I love that you crochet, too. I completely understand about the growing yarn stash and the never-ending "I'm going to make that someday" list. I think it's an unavoidable syndrome with knitting and crochet!

    Blessing to you, too, Friend!

  8. @Rachel Schober: Thank you, R, for letting me know that the "real me" came across here. Having never really seen myself on video or heard my voice recorded--I almost didn't think it was me! I did feel like I was being myself during the recording, though, and I'm glad to know it came across that way to you in the video. Love you much, dearest friend!

  9. J says "I like her hair, it's so pretty!"
B says "Did she say she was 36? But I thought you were older than her? I like her....." ;o)
    I. says "I like her and her movie, it's so cool and all that stuff"
J2 spent the whole video waving at you and yelling "Hi" louder and louder because you didn't say "Hi" back ;o)
They said that, because you are taking requests for future video content, they think your next video should be all about them.... Lol! They have been blessed with an abundance of modesty and humility, shyness too *rolling eyes*

  10. Wonderful video Courtney! I agree with Rachel-- your true whole heart came across on this short video...and I can't wait to see more! Great job dear friend! (I especially love how you didn't fuss trying to make it perfect:)

  11. @B: Oh my goodness. Thank you for giving me a peek into the minds of your little ones. I am still laughing. And I love that B knows you're older than me! ;o) Maybe I'll have to make a video just for them one of these days.

  12. @Mayna: Thank you, dear friend! I am still in shock over this turning out so well. This has been truly an eye opener to me--I thought I was making the video for my readers, but of course it turns out I needed to see myself from a different perspective in order to fully appreciate what God has been doing in me. Can't wait to see you and catch up soon!
