The Last Thing I Expected

Long months of
Plowing bitter hearts—
Yours and mine
—preparing us both for
Tiny seeds of
Forgiveness and
Reconciliation

I planted in hope
But I waited
Without expectation,
Never fully believing
That you and I
Would survive
The winter

And then we did

As the smallest
Sprouts of life
Push up through the soil
I am at once both
Utterly exhausted and
Immeasurably grateful
